Regional Economic Alliances

In 2005 our branch initiated a two-year pilot program to establish regional economic alliances with local governments and the private sector in three regions of British Columbia in an effort to develop a more complete economic development “tool box” that could be available to support growth and diversification within the provincial economy.

The pilot alliances are located in the South Peace, East Kootenay, and Vancouver Island–Coast regions. The alliances are intended to assist communities to take a greater role in enhancing their economic well-being, and engage private sector in the development of the regional economies.

A regional economic development alliance is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization that encompasses a specifically defined economic region. Its membership is composed of communities, business and non-profit organizations, that agree to commit contributing funding, and act collaboratively to develop, implement and manage an integrated strategy for their common interests.

16-97 Economic Alliance
The 16-97 Economic Alliance is managed by local and sub-regional economic development organizations working together to grow and diversify the regional economy of north central British Columbia.

The Alliance is supported from a wide range of businesses, industries, government and non-governmental organizations (including Aboriginal and First Nations) operating in north central BC.

Kootenay Rockies Regional Economic Alliance
The Kootenay Rockies Regional Economic Alliance (KRREA) is a not for profit economic development partnership dedicated to improving economic capacity and competitive advantage in the eastern Kootenay Rockies region in British Columbia, Canada.

The regional economic alliance model provides a means for the multitude of communities, businesses, Aboriginal and other key economic stakeholders in the region to collaborate in a broad-based economic development partnership to improve the region’s overall capacity for growth and enable stakeholders to focus more on complementary activities rather than competing directly for economic growth.

Vancouver Island Economic Alliance
The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA), a new collaborative partnership that will spearhead regional economic development for the Vancouver Island region will provide a means for the multitude of communities, First Nations, businesses, and other key stakeholders to collaborate on a broad-based economic development program that improves the region’s overall capacity for growth.
