Governance & Structure Division

The Governance and Structure Division supports the work of local governments in four areas:

1. The Advisory Services Branch advises on complex local government issues and provides relevant, timely and high quality advice about the local government system.
    
2. Community Projects is responsible for programs directed at the social and economic development of local communities. The Section also oversees the administration of the British Columbia Resort Municipality Initiative which provides resort oriented municipalities with new finance, development and business promotion tools to enhance the resort sector in British Columbia.
    
3. The Local Government Structure Branch is responsible for overseeing the restructure of local governments in the province, including municipal boundary extensions (70 KB) and the incorporation of new municipalities.
    
4. The Local Government - First Nation Relations Branch supports the building of harmonious and productive relationships between local governments and First Nations.
