Tuition Assistance Program
Planning Your Employment Future
The Tuition Assistance Program isn’t just
here to help pay for courses while you’re on lay-off; it’s also here to support you in making good choices for your employment future. And good choices come from good plans that look to the future.
Here are some steps you might want follow in preparing your own career plan for the future:
Step 1 – Look at yourself
While you’re on lay-off, it’s a good time to
think about where you’re headed with your work in
the future. Jot down some notes to help create a
plan for your working future.
Think about what you want, what you’re good at,
and what you want to achieve at this point in your
working life.
Step 2 – Look at what’s out there
Now that you have some general ideas of where
you’d like to be in the future, take a look at the
possibilities that are open to you.
What sort of jobs are in demand? Which might you
be good at? Which ones would be interesting? Which
ones do you have some qualifications for already?
Make a list of what sorts of jobs might be
possible, and then look into each possibility so you
have a complete picture to help make decisions.
Step 3 – Choose a path
Now it’s time to make some decisions. Start by
looking at the list you’ve made and try to narrow it
down to a few possibilities you feel good about.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll be in a good
position to start making a plan for your future.
Step 4 – Make a plan
When you’ve decided where you want to go with
your working life, you can turn to making a plan to
get there. Write down your goals and what you need
to do to achieve them. Make a list of each step you
need to follow.
Once you’ve got your plan, you’re ready to make
choices on the training you need to make it a
success. This is where the Tuition Assistance
Program can really help – by assisting with the cost
of one or more courses over the period of a year.
