Transitional Assistance Program
The program’s final application
period ended on August 31, 2009.
Applications are no longer being accepted.
Once You Are Approved
If your application for Transitional Assistance
Program funding is approved, we send you a package of
documents informing you of this and asking for
additional information. This package will include a
letter informing you of program approval and a worksheet
showing how your Transitional Assistance Program funding
was calculated. The package also includes three
important forms, which must be filled out, signed and
returned to us before we can arrange for you to receive
your funding. To do this, you must follow the following
four steps:
- Make three key
decisions. Among the decisions you will need
to make once your application is approved are the
following:
- Fill out and sign three forms. You must fill
out and sign a Direction to Pay form, an
Employer and Employee Resignation/Retirement
Agreement and a Declaration form. We send copies
of these forms to all successful applicants.
Click here for instructions on how to fill out
these forms.
- Gather any necessary supporting documents. We
also may need additional documents from you,
depending on your individual situation.
Click
here for more information on additional
documents that may be required.
- Send us the forms and supporting documents.
The three forms you send us must be signed
original documents. The supporting documents
should be photocopies of your original
documents. Send these documents to the following
address:

Other things you should know about the
payment(s) you will receive as a successful
Transitional Assistance Program applicant
include the following:
- We are required to deduct an amount for income
tax from all cash payments. These source
deductions are not indicated on your cheque(s),
but will appear on the T4A tax slip you will
receive. Click here to see the amount of source
deductions we will deduct.
- We strongly encourage you to seek professional
financial advice if you are unsure about the tax
and other financial implications of receiving
Transitional Assistance Program funding. Program
staff are not able (or qualified) to provide you
with this type of advice.
