Job Opportunities Program
Once you are approved
Once you are approved for Job Opportunities
Program funding, you will be able to move forward
with your project. You will need to consider the
following points.
Receiving funding
Once your project is approved, we make every
effort to provide funding in a timely manner.
Our goal is to enter into an agreement and
provide funding within two weeks of receiving
ministerial approval.
Hiring workers
Once you are funded, you will be able to begin
hiring. The program is designed to provide
unemployed resource workers with short-term
employment.
You are expected to make an effort to notify
unemployed resource workers in the project area of
upcoming Job Opportunities Project employment
opportunities. You are encouraged to use one or more
of the following methods to recruit eligible
workers:
- Contact an employment agency or employee
assistance centre in the community.
- Post an advertisement at local mills, union
halls, the post office, municipal or district
office, or in the local newspaper.
- Ask a community web site to post information
on the project and the number of workers you
need to hire.
Where projects are longer than six months, or
extended through further funding, new eligible
unemployed resource workers must be hired after
six months.
Recipients of funding are required to be in
compliance with the Employment Standards Act and
WorkSafeBC
regulations.
Project changes
Once your project proposal is approved, an
agreement is signed between your organization
and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). You must
contact PwC to request any amendments to the
project you wish to make after the agreement has
been signed and funding
provided.
Monitoring your progress
PwC and the Ministry of Forests and Range audit
projects once work is underway. Audits include a
review of work activities undertaken,
eligibility of workers, your budget and other
matters PwC and the ministry consider to be
relevant.
