Job Opportunities Program
Eligible Work Activities
Job Opportunities Program-funded projects may carry
out a variety of activities on publicly owned and
Crown land. Examples may include:
- Fuel management
- Recreation site and trails management
- Silviculture (e.g. brushing, spacing,
planting)
- Stream restoration
- Ecosystem and range restoration
Requirements
If you are considering submitting a project
proposal, you must make sure the activities you
describe meet the following requirements:
- The Job Opportunities Program provides
short-term (up to six months) employment for
unemployed resource workers and may not be used
to support business ventures.
- Activities on private land are not eligible
for funding under the Job Opportunities Program.
Only activities that are to take place on
publicly owned and Crown lands are eligible for
the program.
- Activities funded under the program must be
consistent with Canada’s obligations under all
of its international trade treaties (including
the Softwood Lumber Agreement).
- Proposed work activities must not involve
fulfilling a company’s legal or contractual
obligations, including those of forest/range
license holders.
Required standards
All proposed work activities must follow
required standards, where they exist. If there
are no standards in place for the work being
proposed, the applicant must include in the
project proposal a detailed description of how
the work will be carried out and evaluated.
