About the Community Development Trust

Creating opportunities for forest workers, their families and their communities. That’s what the three programs of the Community Development Trust are all about.

The Trust’s three programs were announced by the Premier on March 11, 2008 to support forest workers and communities coping with the challenges of a changing forest industry. The Trust is financed through $129 million in federal funding.

Creating job opportunities in communities that depend on the forest sector. Providing laid-off forest workers with tuition assistance for education and re-training. Helping older forest workers make the transition to other activities.

Forest workers in communities across B.C. will benefit from the Trust’s programs over a three-year period.

The Trust’s programs are consistent with Canada’s obligations under all of its international treaties, including the Softwood Lumber Agreement.
