The Community Development Trust (CDT) is a three-year program helping forest workers, their families and their communities get through challenging times in the forest sector. The CDT creates new job opportunities, helps laid-off workers upgrade their skills and smoothes the transition of older workers who want to leave their forest sector jobs.

Making a difference


The Community Development Trust is making a positive difference in the lives of forest workers. To date, the Province’s three-pronged approach is committed to assisting more than 8,000 people.

Job Opportunities Program

In 2008 and 2009, this program helped older workers make the transition from the forest sector to retirement or other new opportunities.

Laid off and looking to upgrade your skills or education?

You may be eligible for up to a year of assistance with tuition and books.

Funding is provided to communities and organizations wanting to create short-term job opportunities for unemployed resource workers in resource-dependent areas.

 

PROGRAM STATUS:

The program’s final application period ended on August 31, 2009.

More than 2,450 forest workers were approved for funding during the program’s two application periods, committing about $82.7 million in funding.
PROGRAM STATUS:

Applications are accepted on an on-going basis until March 31, 2011.

As of November 30, 2009, more than 3,350 forest workers have had their applications approved, committing $16.3 million out of the program’s total $17.25 million in funding.
PROGRAM STATUS:

The final application period for the Job Opportunities Program closed on January 22, 2010. Program staff are reviewing submissions and applicants will be notified of their project status after March 31, 2010.

As of November 30, 2009, over $70M in funding has been committed to 287 projects providing job opportunities for over 3,000 unemployed resource workers.
