RURALBC SECRETARIAT

About Us

Strong rural community and regional economies are the key to the future of British Columbia.  The Province is committed to investing in communities so they will achieve their unique vision of economic, social and environmental sustainability within healthy, diverse economies.

The Regional Offices are part of the RuralBC Secretariat and we have staff in eight regional locations across British Columbia. Our staff have community, business and economic development expertise unique to the provincial government and act as on-the-ground support for an integrated provincial response for communities across British Columbia.

To help all British Columbians live in prosperous communities, the Regional Offices primary objective is to be your key contact for improved access to services, resources, and program funding information designed to assist communities and regions achieve their potential.

We are the regional contacts for investors, local business and government.  We are there to:

  • advance economic growth and enhance business competitiveness;

  • assist in the identification of business opportunities;

  • identify and assist to resolve barriers to investment, economic development and sustainability; and,

  • support project development.

Our regional staff help find creative solutions to provincial policy or regulatory problems, and work closely with other provincial and federal agencies at a local and regional level to advocate for investors and business interests. We work with communities to identify opportunities and funding programs, support local and regional economic development initiatives, assist communities to strengthen and diversify their economies, and assist with community transition.

We also provide linkages for communities and regions to Provincial government priorities such as Asia Pacific, Canada’s Pacific Gateway, and Work BC, and assist communities to understand and participate in provincial and other government funding and support programs.
